From Jan. 1 Seattle's minimum wage rises above $22 an hour, one of the highest in the country. Some leaders support the increase, while others warn businesses will raise prices, cut hours or eliminate jobs. Families with a young person working part-time in Seattle should watch for the new rate, and prices at familiar shops may move next year too.

Early-morning fire guts Edmonds gyro restaurant, damages nail salon

17号星期六早上五点45分左右，埃德蒙兹(Edmonds)西门(Westgate)商业区的Gyro Makers烤肉店起火，店里没人，十分钟左右控制住，隔壁美甲水疗店中度受损。第一批到场的消防员是看到窗上起雾才找到火源，一名消防员轻伤，其他人都没事。南县消防局提醒，路过救火现场千万别从消防水带上开过去。

Around 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, fire broke out in the empty Gyro Makers restaurant in Edmonds' Westgate Village commercial center; crews had it under control in about ten minutes, and the neighboring nail salon and spa was moderately damaged. The first crew found the fire after noticing condensation on the windows; one firefighter had a minor injury and no one else was hurt. South County Fire reminds drivers never to drive over fire hoses at an emergency scene.

WA attorney general drops youth social-media bill, relying on Meta settlement

华州检察长布朗(Nick Brown)连推2年的青少年社交媒体法案都没在州议会通过，他16号表示不再推了，因为跟脸书和照片墙的母公司Meta达成的和解已经管得更多。和解里，未成年人每天用照片墙和脸书最多两小时，上课时间暂停推送，半夜12点到早上六点直接登不上去。这些限制要靠核实年龄才能执行：Meta须在2027年8月前定下核实办法，再过1年才要求对未成年人全部落实，家里孙辈短期内未必马上感觉到。

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown's youth social-media bill died in the Legislature two years running, and on Oct. 16 he said he will not push it again because the settlement with Meta, the parent of Facebook and Instagram, goes further. Under the settlement minors get at most two hours a day on Instagram and Facebook, push notifications pause during school hours, and the apps are blocked from midnight to 6 a.m. All of it depends on age checks: Meta must adopt an age-assurance method by August 2027 and apply the changes for minors the following year, so grandchildren may not notice them right away.

King Street in the Chinatown-International District gets 'Bruce Lee Way' signs

16号星期五，西雅图在国际区国王街第六大道南到梅纳德大道南(Maynard Avenue South)这一段挂上了「李小龙路」(Bruce Lee Way)路牌，李小龙的女儿李香凝到场。李小龙当年在华盛顿大学读书，在西雅图开过武馆，也在这里认识了太太，这次命名是振藩功夫学院(Jun Fan Gung Fu Academy)推了2年的结果。做路牌、装路牌大约2500美元，也是这家武馆出的钱。

On Friday, Oct. 16, Seattle put up 'Bruce Lee Way' signs along King Street between Sixth Avenue South and Maynard Avenue South in the Chinatown-International District, with his daughter Shannon Lee attending. Bruce Lee studied at the University of Washington, opened a martial arts studio in Seattle and met his wife here; the naming followed a two-year push by the Jun Fan Gung Fu Academy. The roughly $2,500 to make and install the signs was also paid by the academy.

Citizen commission freezes WA governor's pay

Washington's elected officials' salaries are set by a citizen commission, and on Oct. 15 it adopted a proposal under which the governor, attorney general and lieutenant governor get no raise for the next two years, while legislators get 2% on July 1, 2027 and 2% on July 1, 2028. Commissioners cited the state's strained budget and new state worker contracts with no across-the-board raise. The governor now earns $234,275 a year, and the schedule is not final until a meeting in February.

Late-night shootout across from Central District's Garfield High; bullet reaches seventh floor

16号星期五晚上11点半前后，西雅图中央区加菲尔德高中和加菲尔德青少年活动中心对面响起枪声，目击者说听着像两拨人对射，活动中心当时还开着，随即封门。几条街外一栋公寓的七楼住户，事后在走廊里发现一颗子弹，所幸没有人报告受伤。家住附近的，晚上听到枪声先别出门张望，直接打911。

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, gunfire broke out across from Garfield High School and the Garfield Teen Life Center in Seattle's Central District; witnesses said it sounded like two groups exchanging fire, and the center, still open, went into lockdown. A seventh-floor resident of an apartment building several blocks away later found a bullet in the hallway, and no injuries were reported. Neighbors who hear gunfire at night should stay inside rather than look out, and call 911.

Inrix是2004年从微软分出来的贝尔维尤(Bellevue)公司，做的是路况、路面状况和交通网的数据分析。16号它宣布把几乎全部资产卖给保险公司好事达(Allstate)旗下的数据公司Arity，价钱没公开，预计年底前完成，22年的独立经营就此结束。Arity收集驾驶数据，曾被得州起诉未经充分同意就收集出售用户的驾驶和位置数据，开车用这类软件的，可以留意隐私设置。

Inrix is a Bellevue company spun out of Microsoft in 2004 that turns traffic and road data into products and analytics on road conditions and transport networks. On Oct. 16 it announced it will sell substantially all its assets to Arity, the data subsidiary of insurer Allstate, for undisclosed terms, closing later this year and ending 22 years as an independent company. Arity collects driving data and was sued by Texas for allegedly gathering and selling users' driving and location data without adequate consent, so drivers who use such apps may want to check their privacy settings.
