King County Council raises sales tax without a public vote

金县议会10月6号以六比三通过一项销售税加税，没有交给选民投票。明年1月1号起，在金县每买100块钱的东西多付一分钱，预计2027年进账约1030万美元，用于托儿、青少年心理健康和房租补助等服务。投反对票的议员邓恩(Reagan Dunn)认为加税应交选民决定，且这笔钱还没有明确的花钱计划。

On Oct. 6 the King County Council voted 6-3 to raise the sales tax without sending it to voters. Starting Jan. 1, a $100 purchase in King County will cost one cent more, raising about $10.3 million in 2027 for child care, youth mental health and rental assistance. Councilmember Reagan Dunn, who voted no, said tax increases should go to voters and the money has no defined spending plan.

林伍德(Lynnwood)珠宝店遭皮卡撞门抢劫

Pickup rammed into Lynnwood jewelry store in attempted robbery

10月6号中午12点半左右，几名嫌犯开皮卡撞开林伍德(Lynnwood)196街西南6500号段的梅迪纳珠宝店(Medina Jewelers)，企图持械抢劫，店员随即向嫌犯开枪。珠宝、金店是这类撞门抢劫的常见目标，开店的华人家庭尤其要留心门面防护和监控录像。警方正在调查，并公布了监控画面。

Around 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 6, suspects drove a pickup into Medina Jewelers in the 6500 block of 196th Street SW in Lynnwood in an attempted armed robbery, and an employee fired at them. Jewelry and gold shops are common targets of such ram-in robberies, so Chinese families who run shops should look to storefront protection and camera footage. Police are investigating and have released surveillance video.

Members of Congress question immigrant arrests at a national forest campsite

9月5号劳工节周末，联邦林务局护林员陪同移民执法人员，在芒特贝克-斯诺夸尔米国家森林(Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest)一处营地逮捕了五名和家人露营的男子，地点在格兰奈特福尔斯(Granite Falls)以东。12名国会议员10月1号联名致信林务局局长，要求说明林务局在移民执法中的角色；户外团体说，此事让不少移民不敢再去公共林地。这是已知最早由林务局参与的移民执法行动之一，林务局和国土安全部尚未回应媒体询问。

Over Labor Day weekend, on Sept. 5, Forest Service rangers accompanied immigration agents who arrested five men camping with their families in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, east of Granite Falls. A dozen members of Congress wrote to the Forest Service chief on Oct. 1 asking about the agency's role in immigration enforcement; outdoor groups say the arrests have made many immigrants afraid to visit public lands. It is one of the first known immigration actions involving the Forest Service, and neither it nor Homeland Security answered press questions.

华大菲律宾裔学生会传承百余年

UW's Filipino American Student Association carries a century-old legacy

华盛顿大学的菲律宾裔学生会，前身是1917年菲律宾留学生成立的菲律宾俱乐部；1910年人口普查时，全华州只有17名菲律宾裔居民。如今学生会每两周开会，还有舞蹈团在校园表演菲律宾民间舞，一名2年级学生说这里是她「离家之外的家」。华人孙辈刚上大学时，找一个同文化的学生社团，同样能帮他们站稳脚跟。

The University of Washington's Filipino American Student Association traces back to the Filipino Club that Filipino students founded in 1917; the 1910 census counted just 17 Filipino residents in all of Washington. Today the group meets every two weeks and its dance troupe performs Filipino folk dances on campus, and a second-year member calls it her home away from home. Chinese grandchildren starting college can likewise find their footing in a student group that shares their culture.

Seattle council hears public comment on the two-year budget

西雅图市长威尔逊(Katie Wilson)提出的2027至2028年预算，打算不加税、不动用储备金，靠每年削减约5000万美元开支、取消128个职位，再调用约5000万美元其他资金（主要是大企业薪资税收入），补上1.75亿美元的缺口。市议会10月6号举行了两场全天公听会中的第一场，市民可远程或到场发言。第二场公听会定在11月5号。

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson's 2027-2028 budget proposal would close an inherited $175 million deficit without tax increases or reserves, cutting about $50 million a year and eliminating 128 positions, paired with about $50 million in shifted funding, mainly JumpStart payroll-tax revenue. The City Council held the first of two all-day public hearings on Oct. 6, with remote and in-person comment. The second hearing is set for Nov. 5.

Drug dealing persists in Little Saigon despite the mayor's pledge

This summer Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson pledged to address the Chinatown-International District, putting $1.1 million into outreach and cracking down on public drug use and stolen-goods sales. KOMO reports that months later, community advocates say the city's response is not keeping pace, and drug and stolen-goods dealing remains common around Little Saigon. Elders who shop or have dim sum in the district are safer going in daytime and with company.

Japan's foreign minister honors six Seattle-area people and groups

日本外务省9月24号公布2026年外务大臣表彰名单，大西雅图有六位个人和团体获奖，表彰他们推动日美交流。获奖者包括亚太文化中心创办人奥康奈尔(Patsy Surh O'Connell)、一位华盛顿大学法学教授，以及西雅图的花道协会分会和剑道会。今年全球共有160位个人和67个团体获此表彰。

Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its 2026 Foreign Minister's Commendations on Sept. 24, honoring six Seattle-area individuals and organizations for strengthening Japan-US ties. They include Asia Pacific Cultural Center founder Patsy Surh O'Connell, University of Washington law professor Toshiko Takenaka, and Seattle's Ikebana International chapter and Kendo club. Worldwide, 160 individuals and 67 organizations were honored this year.
