U.S. and Iran hold first talks since June as Trump weighs a big decision
据哥伦比亚广播公司(CBS)报道，美国与伊朗的战事已持续近七个月。9月22号联合国大会期间，美国由特使威特科夫(Steve Witkoff)带队、库什纳(Jared Kushner)等人同行，与伊朗代表在卡塔尔居中安排下间接会谈，这是6月以来双方首次接触。特朗普当天在联大演讲中表示，要在达成协议和迅速出手彻底打垮对方之间作出「重大决定」，并认为选举之后就能谈成；伊朗外交部发言人巴加埃则称这番话是「绝望的表现」。
CBS News reports that the U.S.-Iran war is nearly seven months old. On Sept. 22, during the U.N. General Assembly, U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held indirect talks with Iranian officials, mediated by Qatar, the first contact since June. In his U.N. speech that day Trump said he faces a 'big decision' between a deal and quickly annihilating the other side, and predicted a deal right after the election; Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei called the remarks 'a sign of desperation.'

Seattle mayor proposes $9.1 billion budget with no new taxes
据西西雅图博客(West Seattle Blog)报道，西雅图市长威尔逊(Katie Wilson)9月22号在市中心图书馆发表上任后首次预算讲话，提出2027年度91亿美元的预算，属于2027至2028年的2年预算周期，不开征新税。预算裁撤128个职位，多数是空缺，15名在职人员将失去工作。警察局预算5.56亿美元，2年都按1250名警员编制拨款，比今年多66名。
West Seattle Blog reports that Mayor Katie Wilson gave her first budget address on Sept. 22 at the downtown library, proposing a $9.1 billion budget for 2027, the first year of the 2027-28 budget cycle, with no new taxes. It cuts 128 positions, most of them vacant, and 15 people now on the payroll will lose their jobs. The police department's budget is $556 million, funding 1,250 officer positions in both years, 66 more than this year.

Seattle bans grocers from pricing by personal data
所谓「监控定价」，是商家根据顾客的购物记录、上网痕迹等个人资料，用电脑算法给不同的人开不同的价。据KIRO电视台报道，西雅图市议会9月22号以七票对两票通过法令，禁止杂货商用个人购物记录和算法定价。同属KIRO的MyNorthwest报道，法令管大型实体和网上杂货商，价格须公开标示，传统优惠券和明码标出的长者、退伍军人折扣不受影响，并称这在全美是首例。
'Surveillance pricing' is when a seller uses a shopper's purchase history, browsing and other personal data to set different prices for different people by algorithm. KIRO 7 reports the Seattle City Council voted 7-2 on Sept. 22 to bar grocers from setting prices with personal purchase history and algorithms. Sister outlet MyNorthwest reports the law covers large in-store and online grocers, requires visible prices, still allows traditional coupons and transparent senior and veteran discounts, and calls it the first of its kind in the country.

Washington urges residents to claim generic-drug overcharge compensation

Kent homicides reach 14 this year, double last year's pace

KOMO reports Kent police confirmed 14 homicides in the city by the end of summer, compared with seven in the same period last year. They include a homicide in the Kent-Des Moines Park & Ride lot and a gang-related shooting involving teenagers, and police say there is no clear pattern in location or motive. Chinese families who shop or run errands in Kent should go out in pairs at night and stay alert.

微软再裁员 华州约300人 多在游戏部门
Microsoft cuts again, about 300 in Washington, mostly in gaming
总部在雷德蒙(Redmond)的微软9月22号通知员工，全公司裁员450人，其中约300人在华州，被裁的大多是Xbox游戏部门的岗位。7月微软已裁过一轮，全公司4800人、华州占605人，这回是两个月里的又一次，家里有子女在科技业上班的，这阵子宜多留些应急储蓄。据《西雅图时报》报道，下一部《光环》(Halo)游戏将交给旗下的动视(Activision)开发，雷德蒙总部只留一个较小的团队维护现有游戏。
Redmond-based Microsoft told employees Sept. 22 it is laying off 450 people companywide, about 300 in Washington, mostly in Xbox gaming roles. It is the second round in two months after July's 4,800 companywide cuts, 605 in Washington, so families with children in tech may want a bigger emergency cushion. The Seattle Times reports future Halo development moves to Microsoft's Activision unit, with a smaller Redmond team supporting existing Halo games.

旅游网站亿客行(Expedia)旗下有Hotels.com和Vrbo等品牌；据《西雅图时报》报道，公司向州就业安全厅提交通知，将在西雅图因特贝(Interbay)总部裁员58人。被裁的有数据科学家、财务经理和软件工程师，今年4月公司已在华州裁过162人，家里有年轻人在科技业的，求职和存钱都要早做打算。这一轮定在11月21号到12月1号之间执行。
Expedia, the travel site whose brands include Hotels.com and Vrbo, filed a state notice that it will lay off 58 people at its Interbay headquarters in Seattle, The Seattle Times reports. The cuts include data scientists, finance managers and software engineers, after 162 Washington layoffs in April, so families with young people in tech should plan early for job searches and savings. The layoffs take effect between Nov. 21 and Dec. 1.

Seattle author Tae Keller's new book represents Washington at National Book Festival

Northwest Asian Weekly reports that Tae Keller, a part-Korean author raised in Hawai'i who moved to Seattle in 2020, has had her new middle-grade novel When Tomorrow Burns chosen by the Washington Center for the Book to represent the state at the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. Her earlier book When You Trap a Tiger follows a biracial Korean family and its storytelling, something Asian grandparents and grandchildren can recognize. The new book is about teens facing wildfire season, and she already spoke at the Bellevue Library on Sept. 20; her books can be borrowed from the library.

西雅图遴选警察局长 下周一中区办听取会
Seattle police chief search holds Central listening session Monday
西雅图警察局现由代理局长赛尔斯(Andre Sayles)主持，市长威尔逊8月启动遴选正式局长，年薪范围约23.4万到37.5万美元。据国会山社区报(Capitol Hill Seattle)报道，三场社区听取会里的「中区」场定在9月28号星期一晚上六点到八点，地点是西雅图大学坎皮恩礼堂(914 E Jefferson)，要先在网上登记。住在中区、国会山一带的华人长者对治安有想法，可以请家人帮忙登记，到场说一说。

Capitol Hill Seattle reports the 'Central' session of three community listening sessions is Monday, Sept. 28, 6 to 8 p.m., in Seattle University's Campion Ballroom at 914 E Jefferson, with online registration. Chinese seniors in the Central District and Capitol Hill who have views on public safety can ask family to register them and attend.
