Democratic state officials and voting-rights groups argued the president lacks authority to make such changes before a major election, and lower courts blocked the plan. PBS NewsHour reports that on Sept. 14 the Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration's request to let the rules take effect; Justices Alito and Thomas dissented.

The Renton Reporter says a woman was the victim of a sexually motivated assault at about 9:24 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, on Renton's Springbrook Trail near the 1900 block of Oakesdale Avenue SW. Seniors often walk trails in the morning, and this happened in daylight, so walking with company and carrying a phone is the safer habit. Her injuries are not life-threatening; a police K-9 track did not find the suspect and the investigation continues.

KIRO 7 reports the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office announced on Sept. 14 a "Drone as First Responder" pilot, placing drones strategically so they reach a scene after a call. Sheriff Susanna Johnson said the drones will not replace medics or deputies but let crews see what is happening before they arrive, for uses such as searching for missing or vulnerable people, locating fleeing suspects and traffic collisions. It is a trial, and the county will evaluate results before deciding next steps.

Two Kent elementary students hit by driver while walking from school

The children, 8 and 9, had minor injuries and were taken to a hospital; the police chief said both were alert and talking. Police are investigating whether impairment or speed played a role — when walking grandchildren home, watch for traffic even on the sidewalk.

华州的选举全部靠邮寄：选票寄到家里，选民在家填好，签名后寄回，或者投进各县设置的官方投票箱；华州不按选区设投票站，需要当面协助的选民可去各县设的投票中心。
Washington runs its elections entirely by mail: the ballot comes to your home, you fill it out and sign, then mail it back or drop it in an official county drop box, ; Washington has no precinct polling places, and counties run voting centers for voters who need in-person help.
邮寄投票的道理是让选民不必请假排队，也给人时间在家把选票看清楚再填；信封上的签名用来核对是本人投票。州务卿霍布斯在联邦最高法院决定后表示，华州选举目前没有任何改变，选民照常收到邮寄选票，可上州务卿网站VoteWA.gov查选民登记、找附近的投票箱。
The idea is that voters need not take time off to stand in line, and can read the ballot carefully at home before filling it out; the signature on the envelope is checked to confirm the voter. After the Supreme Court decision, Secretary of State Steve Hobbs said nothing is changing about Washington elections right now and voters will keep receiving ballots by mail, pointing them to VoteWA.gov to check registration and find drop boxes.
