A paraeducator is a school staff member who helps teachers look after students; they are not a certified teacher. KOMO News and KING 5 reported on Sept. 9 that before lunch on Sept. 8, a paraeducator at Decatur High School in Federal Way got into a physical altercation with a student in a hallway; video shows him pinning the student to the ground while people shout at him to let go. He was arrested and released with a criminal citation and a court date, the misdemeanor assault case has been referred to the Federal Way Prosecutor's Office, and the district has put him on paid administrative leave and opened its own investigation.

The Bellevue Reporter reported on Sept. 9 that it will eliminate 138 positions between Oct. 27 and Jan. 1; affected King County sites include Auburn Medical Center, two Federal Way locations and a West Seattle campus, and the largest cuts fall on clinical assistant nurse managers and ophthalmology assistants. The announcement gave no reason.

The report says calls have risen 221% since 2019 and each call in Issaquah costs about $1,272. The board takes feedback at 4 p.m. today; a councilmember says no vote is scheduled today and one could come in October. The money ultimately comes from local taxpayers, so residents who want a say should watch the board's October meetings.

KIRO 7 reports that around 1 a.m., Thurston County deputies found a woman at a Nisqually fishing area that is closed at night, burning documents bearing Social Security numbers because, she said, she had no shredder. She gave a false name, a deputy's Taser had no effect, and she drove off through a stop sign before deputies forced her car into a ditch; she was arrested on suspicion of DUI among other things, and no one was hurt. Sheriff Derek Sanders called it odd given the dry weather and the burn ban. Old papers with Social Security or bank numbers are safest in a shredder or at a free bank or community shred event, never on an outdoor fire.

KING 5 reported on Sept. 9 that Tacoma Public Schools opened two new buildings this term: Lowell Elementary replaces a 75-year-old building, and the Maritime|253 skills center gives high school students hands-on training for maritime careers alongside regular classes. The center, on the Port of Tacoma waterfront at 1225 Maritime Center Drive, takes 11th and 12th graders from several South Sound districts at no cost, with paths to jobs, apprenticeships or two- and four-year college. Carnation is a small town in the Snoqualmie Valley, and the Snoqualmie Valley Record reported on Sept. 9 that the Carnation Farms farm stand opened a butcher counter on Sept. 5, selling meat from animals raised on the property: T-bone steaks, smoked pork hocks, bacon, Italian sausage and fresh lamb gyros. More than 150 customers came on opening day, 51 of them new to Carnation Farms, and sales topped $4,000. The counter is open Thursday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; anyone who braises pork hocks or cures their own meat can ask what cuts they have.

Seniors who ride the 8 downtown for appointments can budget less slack for the same trip.

The University of Washington is evaluating the program; when an older relative calls 911 and it feels serious, say the symptoms plainly, such as chest pain or trouble breathing, and insist on an ambulance.

在美国，自己的病历可以开口要一份
In the US, you can ask for a copy of your own medical records
华州法律(RCW 70.02.080)规定，病人要求查看或复印自己的病历，医疗机构须在15个工作日内办理；有特殊情况，要告诉病人最晚哪天能拿到，最长不超过21个工作日。机构可以收取合理的费用，费用付清前可以不给复印；病历里看不懂的缩写和代码，病人可以要求解释。背后的道理是，病历记的是病人自己的身体，换医生、看急诊、回国看病时，拿在自己手里最有用。
Washington law (RCW 70.02.080) says that when a patient asks to see or copy their records, the provider must do so within 15 working days; if there is a delay it must tell the patient the earliest date, no later than 21 working days after the request. Providers may charge a reasonable fee and need not provide copies until it is paid, and patients can ask them to explain codes and abbreviations. The logic is that the record describes the patient's own body, and it is most useful in the patient's own hands when changing doctors, going to an emergency room or seeing a doctor abroad.
国内不少老人习惯把检查单、化验单攒在一个袋子里，看病时拎着去。这边是同一个道理，只是多了一步：得主动开口要。
Many older people in China keep their test results in one bag and bring it to every appointment. It is the same idea here, with one extra step: you have to ask for it.
