This week marks 25 years since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. CBS News reported on Sept. 8 that New York City put more than 170,000 pages of government records online that day, including 68 boxes of previously located files; the records show asbestos was still being found at the site at least ten months after the towers fell, while officials at the time were telling the public the air was safe. PBS NewsHour reported the same day that, by the 9/11 Memorial and Museum's count, at least 49,000 responders and survivors have since been diagnosed with cancer. Mayor Zohran Mamdani said people got sick because the leaders they trusted lied and told them they were safe to breathe in toxic air.

The district says it still needs data from every family and is asking everyone to file the School Meals Application for Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education Benefit (CNEEB), preferably online, with student bar codes used to track who eats. Mayor Katie Wilson said the city money covers what federal funding does not, and she hopes it fills only a few years' gap until the state funds universal meals.

The Fair Work Center and a law firm representing them put the preliminary total at about $1.85 million, with the unpaid-wage portion doubled as the law requires, plus other damages and interest. Washington's rule is plain: no pay stub and no honest record of hours is illegal, so keep your own schedules, clock records and payment texts — that is the evidence you chase the money with.

After a driver refused to stop and ran, Pierce County sheriff's deputies chased the car through Spanaway and ended it with a PIT maneuver, the pursuit finishing in a crash. When this happens on ordinary streets, the people most likely to get caught up in it are the ordinary drivers alongside who have no idea what is going on. If you hear a siren or see the lights, pull right and stop, and wait until the whole line has gone past; don't accelerate through the intersection, and don't stop in the middle of the road.

State law doubles fines in school zones, so a ticket runs into the hundreds; passing a stopped school bus costs more — a mandatory $500 that cannot be reduced or waived, and Marysville alone recorded more than 2,700 of those last year. If you drive a grandchild to school, remember one thing: when the bus stops and the paddle swings out, stop and stay stopped until it folds back in.

Thirty-four former clients are suing Washington immigration attorney Alexandra Lozano and related companies, and a second amended complaint filed Sept. 8 in U.S. District Court in Seattle adds claims of forgery, theft and unlawful practice of law — allegations by the plaintiffs that a court has not ruled on, with no criminal charges filed. The complaint says clients were asked to sign blank sheets and that those signatures were later used on immigration petitions they had never seen, and that non-lawyer staff decided how cases were handled; Lozano has previously denied wrongdoing. Lawyers for the plaintiffs say about 2,500 former clients have since asked about representation — the practical lesson is never to sign a blank page, and to read every form before it goes out in your name.

伦顿(Renton)1901年9月6号建市，125年后的同一天，也就是上个礼拜天，市政府和伦顿历史学会在自由公园（Liberty Park）给这座城过了个生日，有蛋糕、有游戏，市长阿尔蒙多·帕沃内(Armondo Pavone)到场讲了话。自由公园是伦顿的头一个公共园子，选在那儿不是随便挑的。市里说，125周年的活动接下来几个月还有，安排放在市政府的居民意见网站yourvoice.rentonwa.gov上，想带孙辈去凑热闹的可以留意。
Renton was incorporated on Sept. 6, 1901, and on the same date 125 years later — this past Sunday — the city and the Renton Historical Society threw it a birthday party in Liberty Park, with cake, games and remarks from Mayor Armondo Pavone. Liberty Park is the city's first public park, which is why it was chosen. The city says more 125th-anniversary events are coming over the next few months, with the schedule posted on its resident-input site, yourvoice.rentonwa.gov, if you'd like to take a grandchild along.

Some councilmembers wanted to raise that exemption to 2,500 square feet, arguing that townhouses average about 2,400 and a low threshold discourages exactly the middle housing the city wants; last Tuesday that proposal lost 3-4, by a single vote. The city projects the fee will raise $3.3 million in 18 months; neighbouring Redmond charges $30 a square foot with no exemption at all.

After app-based workers complained their pay was wrong, Seattle's Office of Labor Standards investigated Walmart's delivery platform and found it had not met the city's minimum-payment ordinance for app-based workers: offers below the required minimum, missing upfront information, and no electronic receipts within 24 hours. Walmart is paying $119,528.29 to 413 affected workers and $2,455.52 to the city. If you take app work in Seattle, keep every offer receipt and weekly statement — that paperwork is exactly what the city audits.

美国机场的送机规矩，正在往回松一点。据CBS新闻9月8号报道，运输安全管理局(TSA)在13个机场开了一个新项目，报道点名的有洛杉矶、达拉斯沃斯堡、拉斯维加斯和盐湖城；持TSA PreCheck或其他可信旅客身份的人，就算当天不坐飞机，也可以申请一张当日通行证，过安检进到登机口去接人或送人。要提前一到三天在网上申请、等批准，当天带身份证件走PreCheck通道，一天之内可以进出，不收钱。
The American habit of walking someone to their gate is loosening back up a little. CBS News reported on Sept. 8 that the Transportation Security Administration has started a program at 13 airports — the ones the story names are Los Angeles, Dallas-Fort Worth, Las Vegas and Salt Lake City — letting people who hold TSA PreCheck or another trusted-traveler credential get a one-day pass through security to meet or see off a traveler, even without a ticket of their own. You apply online one to three days ahead, wait for approval, and on the day show ID at a PreCheck lane; the pass is good for that calendar day, you can go in and out, and it is free.

So the news does not land here as "more convenient" — it lands as a piece of a goodbye ritual being handed back.

In Chinese families, seeing someone off means going with them to the last possible step — you walk the Buddha all the way west. For nearly 25 years here that meant stopping at the checkpoint, and plenty of older people never quite got used to it; it felt like the sentence was cut off. Now the door is open a crack. There is also an older route that needs no website: Alaska Airlines' policy says that when a child flies alone, a guardian can collect an escort pass at the check-in counter with photo ID — up to two adults may go through, they need to arrive at least 90 minutes early, and they have to stay at the gate until the flight leaves.
