Amazon cargo jet overruns Miami runway, killing at least five
据《西雅图时报》9月6号报道，一架亚马逊的波音767货机当天下午两点前后从波多黎各圣胡安飞抵迈阿密国际机场，落地后冲出跑道、撞上多辆车，至少五人死亡、五人受伤。这架飞机1994年出厂，亚马逊2016年买下，当年在西雅图海洋节(Seafair)的航展上第一次挂出Prime Air的标志。事发时当地有雷雨，阵风每小时30英里，具体原因还没有定论。
The Seattle Times reported on Sept. 6 that an Amazon Boeing 767 freighter arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, overran a runway at Miami International Airport around 2 p.m. and struck several vehicles, killing at least five people and injuring five more. The plane was built in 1994 and bought by Amazon in 2016; it was the first jet to carry the company's Prime Air livery, unveiled at the Seafair air show in Seattle. Thunderstorms and gusts to 30 mph were recorded at the time, and no cause has been determined.

据西雅图KIRO电台旗下的MyNorthwest9月6号报道，当天凌晨西雅图贝尔镇(Belltown)接连发生两起枪击。头一起在零点40分前后，出事地点在第三大道靠近丹尼街(Denny)和克莱街(Clay)一带，一名伤者送到港景医院(Harborview)后不治，另有三人中枪，其中两人自己去了医院。一个多钟头以后，第三大道与布兰查德街(Blanchard)路口一辆停着的车里，一名女子头部和身上中枪，送医后死亡。
MyNorthwest, the news site of Seattle's KIRO Radio, reported on Sept. 6 that two shootings hit Seattle's Belltown early that morning. The first, around 12:40 a.m. near Third Avenue at Denny and Clay, left one person dead at Harborview Medical Center and three others wounded, two of whom got themselves to the hospital. A little more than an hour later, a woman was shot in the head and torso in a parked car at Third and Blanchard and died at Harborview.

A data center is a big room holding thousands of computers, where the photos on your phone and the answers from AI get processed — and the satellites this company plans to build are data centers lifted into orbit. GeekWire reported on Sept. 5 that California-based Cowboy Space has leased a 291,035-square-foot building in Kent, formerly a Costco distribution center, to make satellite and rocket hardware; the broker, Newmark, called it the largest industrial lease in the Puget Sound region this year and said it is expected to add 300 jobs.

The park draws families during the day; with dusk arriving earlier than in midsummer, stick to the busier, better-lit stretches for an evening walk.

Seattle teachers vote Friday on their new contract
西雅图公立学校的教师工会跟学区谈的是一份新合同，8月底一度悬着开不了学，上周二深夜谈成临时协议，学校9月2号照常开门。这周还有最后一步：工会9月11号星期五下午五点在西雅图中心的麦考大厅(McCaw Hall)开会表决，通过了合同细节才会公开。学监舒尔迪纳(Ben Shuldiner)说，最后谈定的加薪略高于学区先前提的3年8.8%；工会那边说，争到的是一个为期18个月、改进特殊教育服务的协商安排。
The Seattle Education Association and the district were bargaining a new contract that nearly delayed the start of school in late August; a tentative agreement late Tuesday night let schools open on Sept. 2. One step remains: members meet at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at McCaw Hall in Seattle Center to ratify it, after which the details become public. Superintendent Ben Shuldiner said the accepted salary offer was a bit above the 8.8% over three years the district had put forward, and the union said it won an 18-month collaborative process to improve special education services.

西雅图公共图书馆从9月6号星期日夜里开始更换整套电脑系统，大约要一个星期，整件事预计10月初收尾。这期间查账户、预约借书、一部分网上服务、自助借还机和取书柜都会受影响，借书要带实体卡或手机上的电子卡；今天劳动节各馆本来就休息，明天起分馆照常开门，西雅图西区的Admiral分馆因为空调检修另外关着。东区用的金县图书馆(KCLS)是另一套系统，不受这次影响。
Seattle Public Library began replacing its entire computer system on the night of Sunday, Sept. 6; the disruption should last about a week, with the project finishing in early October. Patron accounts, placing holds, some online services, self-checkout machines and pickup lockers are affected, so bring a physical or digital card; branches are closed today for Labor Day and reopen tomorrow, except the West Seattle/Admiral branch, which is shut for unrelated HVAC work. The King County Library System used on the Eastside is a separate system and is unaffected.

8月31号星期一，马里斯维尔(Marysville)警方从一辆拖车里救出42只西高地白㹴，最小的才四个星期，最大的四岁。警方说这些狗被叠着关在笼子里，有的装在收纳箱里，毛打结、身上沾着粪便和尿，警方已建议以42项二级虐待动物提出指控。狗现在在埃弗雷特(Everett)动物收容所做体检和打疫苗；收容所说案子还在查，什么时候能领养现在说不准，要问的是马里斯维尔市政府，不是收容所。
On Monday, Aug. 31, police in Marysville pulled 42 West Highland terriers, from four weeks to four years old, out of a trailer. Officers said the dogs were stacked in kennels, some in a storage tub, matted and soiled with feces and urine, and have recommended 42 counts of second-degree animal cruelty. The dogs are now at the Everett Animal Shelter for medical checks and vaccinations; the shelter says the investigation is ongoing and will not say whether or when they can be adopted, directing questions to the city of Marysville rather than the shelter.

美国文化一则American Customs
今天是劳动节，美国的劳动节在9月的第一个星期一，不在5月1号。据美联社报道，头一回过是1882年9月5号在纽约，中央劳工联合会和劳工骑士团组织了一场游行，大约1万名工人走上街；又过了十来年，1894年克利夫兰总统签了国会通过的法案，才把9月的第一个星期一定成法定假日。
Today is Labor Day, which in the United States falls on the first Monday of September rather than May 1. The Associated Press reports the first celebration was held in New York City on Sept. 5, 1882, when about 10,000 workers marched in a parade organized by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor; more than a decade later, in 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a congressional act making the first Monday of September a legal holiday.

Americans treat the day as the close of summer: school starts, the white summer clothes go away, and families take one last trip. Most stores stay open and run sales — but Costco is closed, so a restocking run today is a wasted trip.
