Nine days on, two men pulled alive from a Nepal hydropower tunnel
8月26号，一处冰川崩塌在尼泊尔引发山洪。《西北亚洲周报》9月4号报道，尼泊尔至少1287人遇难，5000多人下落不明；12个水电工地上约900名工人失联，约500人被认为困在隧道里，光特里舒里三A(Trishuli 3A)电站就有115人。九天之后，两名机械工人被救出来，一人情况危重，都空运到加德满都(Kathmandu)。
A glacier collapse on Aug. 26 triggered flooding in Nepal. Northwest Asian Weekly reported Sept. 4 that at least 1,287 died and more than 5,000 remain missing; about 900 workers at 12 hydropower projects are unaccounted for and roughly 500 are believed trapped in tunnels, including about 115 at the Trishuli 3A plant. Nine days in, two mechanical workers were pulled out alive, one critical, both airlifted to Kathmandu.

Because H.R.1 cut Medicaid funding, Gov. Bob Ferguson signed an executive order on Sept. 3 at International Community Health Services in Seattle's Chinatown-International District, creating a response committee and directing health agencies to build a system tracking coverage losses. About 14,000 immigrants were projected to lose coverage; extensive outreach using several methods preserved it for about 3,000 green card holders, and 11,000 lose it starting in October.

Wildfire spending keeps climbing at the three investor-owned Northwest utilities: Puget Sound Energy has put in more than $200 million since 2024 on equipment upgrades, smoke-detecting cameras and vegetation management; Avista spends about $65 million a year and Pacific Power forecast over $10 million in its 2024 mitigation plan. Such capital spending can be used to justify rate requests, which the state Utilities and Transportation Commission approves. Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank starts home delivery on Sept. 15
斯诺夸尔米谷食物银行从9月15号起，每星期把食物送到家门口，专为交通不便、行动不便、年纪大或者要照顾家人的住户。每一箱大约25磅，有蛋白质、奶制品、罐头蔬菜和主食，还附食谱和营养资料。合资格的邮编包括卡纳申(Carnation)、瀑布城(Fall City)、伊萨夸(Issaquah)、枫谷(Maple Valley)和北本德(North Bend)，志愿者在圣西山路德教会(Mount Si Lutheran Church)打包，再由送货员送出。要登记，合资格的住户或者家里人可以上斯诺夸尔米谷食物银行的网站 snoqualmievalleyfoodbank.org 的联络页询问。

华大(UW)头一届机器人硕士 9月10号截止申请
UW's first robotics master's closes applications on Sept. 10
华盛顿大学工学院今年秋天头一回开机器人研究生班，一个机器人理学硕士，一个应用机器人研究生证书。头一届一共只收35人：硕士25个位子，证书班10个，证书班是给在职的人念的，不用辞工。9月1号开始收申请，9月10号截止，学校说大约一个星期内通知结果，家里有孩子做这一行的，这几天就得动手。
This autumn UW's College of Engineering launches its first robotics graduate programmes: a Master of Science in Robotics and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Robotics. The inaugural cohort is capped at 35—25 master's seats and 10 certificate places, the latter designed for working professionals. Applications opened Sept. 1 and close Sept. 10, with decisions promised in about a week.

唐人街夜市全美排第三 9月26号再摆一次
CID Night Market ranks No. 3 in the US; next one is Sept. 26
《Time Out》评了全美10大夜市，西雅图唐人街的夜市排到第三，前头是纽约皇后区夜市和加州圣路易斯奥比斯波(San Luis Obispo)的农夫市集。去年那一场来了大约2万人。今年这一场是9月26号星期六，下午一点到晚上九点，免费入场，老老少少都能去。
Time Out ranked the ten best US night markets and Seattle's CID Night Market came third, behind the Queens Night Market in New York and the Downtown SLO Farmers' Market in California. Last year's drew about 20,000 people. This year's runs Saturday, Sept. 26, 1 to 9 p.m., free and open to all ages.

联邦道(Federal Way)野浪乐园开了50年 11月1号关门
Wild Waves in Federal Way closes for good on Nov. 1 after 50 years
1976年开张的野浪主题水上乐园(Wild Waves)要永久关门了：水上乐园这个劳动节周末之后就停，主题公园那一头撑到11月1号。经营的是奥克拉荷马州的Premier Parks，说是成本一直在涨，35名全职、八九百名季节工受影响。地皮另有业主，将来要盖100万平方英尺的仓库，园里一些机动游戏会转到别的乐园去。
Wild Waves Theme & Water Park, open since 1976, is closing for good: the water park shuts after Labor Day weekend and the theme park runs to Nov. 1. Operator Premier Parks, based in Oklahoma, cites rising costs; 35 full-time and 800-900 seasonal jobs are affected. The site, owned by a separate landowner, is slated for a 1-million-square-foot warehouse, and some rides will move to other parks.

Pinehurst light rail station opens Sept. 30
轻轨在北门(Northgate)站和肖尔莱恩南站(Shoreline South)中间要多一个站，叫派恩赫斯特站，就在西雅图东北130街北边，1号线和2号线都停这一站，9月30号星期三通车。这是头一个在已经通车的线上加建出来的站，造价2.4亿美元，估计每天3400人次；两条线合起来算，林伍德(Lynnwood)到国际区之间四到五分钟就有一班。金县地铁还新开了77路公车，把湖城(Lake City)和比特湖(Bitter Lake)一带接过来，往南通到罗斯福(Roosevelt)和华大区。
A new station, Pinehurst, opens Wednesday, Sept. 30 between Northgate and South Shoreline, just north of NE 130th Street. It is the first infill station added to an operating line, cost $240 million and is projected at 3,400 daily boardings; combined 1 Line and 2 Line headways run every 4-5 minutes between Lynnwood and the International District. King County Metro's new Route 77 feeds it from Lake City and Bitter Lake.

《西雅图时报》母公司9月4号联手纽约的Newsday，起诉微软和OpenAI，指这两家绕过付费墙、无视网站条款，抓走几十万篇报道去训练人工智能。报社在状子里写道，用这些内容训出来的生成式人工智能，等于跟出稿的新闻机构直接抢饭吃；报社要求赔钱，还要求销毁用这些内容训练出来的数据集和模型。微软说对这场官司感到意外，愿意坐下来谈；时报社长费斯科(Alan Fisco)说，公司1年花几百万美元做新闻，不能任人不打招呼、也不给钱就拿去用。
On Sept. 4 The Seattle Times Co., with New York's Newsday, sued Microsoft and OpenAI, alleging they bypassed paywalls and ignored terms of service to scrape hundreds of thousands of articles for AI training. The complaint says GenAI trained on such content competes directly with the newsrooms that produced it; the suit seeks damages and destruction of datasets and models built on that content. Microsoft said it was surprised but happy to talk; Times CEO Alan Fisco said the company spends millions a year on journalism and must defend it from use without consent or payment.

在美国，正经事都走纸信：政府、保险、医院、银行的重要通知一律寄到您信箱——今天这条白卡就是靠寄信和短信通知本人的。
In America official business travels by post: government, insurance, hospitals and banks send notices to your mailbox—the Medicaid changes above are being communicated by mail and text.
州里通知您，用的就是寄信和发短信；您不回，保就断了，不会有人再打电话来追。这套规矩反过来也护着您：机构要动您的保险或账户，得先寄信、还得留下寄信记录。正经信信封上印着机构名和回邮地址，里头常写着回复期限；广告信厚、花，催您马上打电话。
The state notifies people by mail and text; if you do not respond, coverage lapses and no one calls to chase you. The same rule protects you: an agency must send a letter, and keep a record of sending it, before it changes your coverage or account. Official envelopes carry an agency name, a return address and often a reply-by date; junk mail is thick, glossy and urges you to call at once.
咱们老家也有挂号信，收了要签字，一样是「签了就算通知到」。差别只在美国把这套用在了日常：一封普通平信，也可能是您医保的生死线。
Back home a registered letter needs a signature and counts as notice too. The difference is that here the same logic applies to ordinary post—a plain envelope can decide your health coverage.
