If a new mother is at rock bottom for two straight weeks, cannot sleep, weeps constantly, or says anything about harming herself or the baby, do not wait it out as 'overthinking' — take her to a doctor, or call the 988 mental-health line (free, confidential, Chinese available, 24 hours). One question, asked a step early, can stop something that cannot be undone.

The Seattle Times reports that software maker Qualtrics closed its $6.75 billion purchase of Indiana healthcare-data firm Press Ganey Forsta in May, found duplicate roles across the two companies, and notified staff of layoffs on Aug. 19. A state filing submitted Wednesday shows 117 jobs cut in Seattle, with a separation date of Oct. 18 and no relocated positions. Tech employers have laid off more than 10,000 Seattle-based workers over the past year or so.
