According to GeekWire and KOMO, King County Superior Court Judge John McHale, acting on a suit by Washington Attorney General Nick Brown, found that the prediction-market platform Kalshi likely violated the state Gambling Act and the Consumer Protection Act. The company must geofence Washington users out of sports, elections, politics, entertainment, culture, tech and science contracts, plus 'mentions' contracts, by September 2; commodities, climate, economics and finance markets may continue. Missing the deadline carries a $120,000-a-day penalty. The judge found the company had 'willfully ignored' a December 2025 notice from the state gambling commission. Kalshi says it disagrees and is weighing its legal options.
